Sijo (4 Sites, 522 Hits) 02/04/2001

Featured Ring A community for those who read, write and enjoy Sijo, the most popular of Korean poetry forms. Sijo share a common history with haiku and other Japanese forms. Sijo is a modern term for a Korean style of lyrical poetry, originally called tanga (literally, "short song"). The sijo strongly resembles Japanese haiku in having a strong foundation in nature in a short profound structure. Bucolic, metaphysical and astronomical themes are often explored. The lines average 14-16 syllables, for a total of 44-46. There is a pause in the middle of each line, so in English they are sometimes printed in six lines instead of three. Most poets follow these guidelines very closely although there are longer examples. From Wikipedia.

Dark Poetry (5 Sites, 47 Hits) 09/10/2000
Featured Ring Dark Poetry is a ring for that poetry which is written more from the inside, not covering up all those dark feelings we feel in our daily life. Fine Lines, poetry, published and unpublished. GenerationX feel. Anxiety mixed with hope. Fine lines between love and hate, sanity and insanity. Dark poetry. People who write like I do. People who want to make others think and feel. People who don't feel the need to follow rules and aren't afraid of offending others, but often are worried about doing just that!

Poetry Websites (19 Sites, 129 Hits) 05/10/2005
Featured Ring Poetry is a form of art in which language is used for its aesthetic qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its of resonance may exist, between individual verses, in their patterns of rhyme or rhythm. Some forms of poetry are specific to particular cultures and genres, responding to the characteristics of the language in which the poet writes. While readers accustomed to identifying poetry with Shakespeare, Dante and Goethe may think of poetry as being written in rhyming lines and regular meter, there are other traditions, such as those of Du Fu and Beowulf, which use other approaches to achieve rhythm and euphony.
